Hand knit-Ladies Waffle Mitts Pattern

Pattern is for ladies small,
Smaller mitt use 4sts less.
larger mitt use 4 sts more.

MATERIAL
Worsted weight yarn
1 ball each of (MC) main color
(CC) contrasting color
GUAGE:
18 st x 24 rows=4ins
Set of 4mm needles
Stitch holder

CUFF
cast on 40 sts, k1,p1 around for 3 ins
HAND
rounds 1-3: knit, purl  ,knit.
rounds 4-7: slip2 (mc) sts purlways, K2 (CC)
repeat around
rounds 8-11 with (mc) knit, purl, knit, purl.
repeat rounds 4-11 until piece measures 2 1/2 ins from begining of hand end on round 9
THUMB OPENING
using free needle and (mc),k 1st 2 sts, slip next 8 sts to stitch holder for thunb, cast on 8 sts, knit to end of round.
begining with round 11 work even in pattern for desired length, end on round 8
DECREASE FOR TOP
begining with round 9, (P6,P2 tog.)around
round 10: knit,
round 11: (P 3, P2tog.)
work pattern rounds 4-8
round 9: (P2. P 2 tog.)
round 10 : K,
round 11 : (p1, p 2 TOG,)
round 12 : ( s 1,k 1 (cc)
round 13 with (mc) k2 tog. around
thread remaining sts. on length of yarn and finish off
THUMB
slip 1st 2 sts.for thumb on one needle, slip last 6 sts on 2nd needle, join mc and knit these 6 sts, pick up and knit 2 sts. along side of thumb opening, with 3rd needle, pick up and knit 8 sts along cast on edge for thumb opening. with 4th needle pick up and knit 2 sts along side of thumb, knit next 2 sts to same needle, there are now 8 sts on 1st and 2nd needles, 4 sts on 3rd needle. purl1 round.
join (CC) work rounds 4-11 ,until 3 patterns completed, end with row 11.
DECREASE FOR THUMB:
with (MC) k 2 tog. 10 times
k1 (MC) k 1 (CC) around.
with (MC) k 2 tog. around. finish off.
